Thoughtful & simple valentines on the cheap

February 9, 2016

Want something more meaningful than a Hallmark card but also low budget? With a little love and care, it’s easy to come up with a few things that will bring a smile to the face of your loved ones. Here are a few ideas:

52 reasons why I love you

Have a spare deck of cards laying around? Even if you don’t, they’re available at just about every drug store. Pick one up and write a reason for your love on each card. Hole-punch and bind the cards like a book, or just stick them back in the box so they’re still playable. Guaranteed to get you showered in kisses.

Love coupons

Good for one free back scratch! I’ll do the dishes after dinner! I’ll have dinner with your parents without complaining! – Think about what would really mean something to your S/O and get creative! They’ll really appreciate the thought you put into it. No take-backs!

Date night jar

Write a different date idea on popsicle sticks and toss them in a jar. When date night comes around, pull out a stick and you have the night’s events planned for you ahead of time! PS: You can color-code the sticks by price to make sure you stay on budget. If you’re hurting for cash, you know to pick a color that has a free or low-cost date on it. If you just got your tax refund, you can pick a higher-cost stick.

Baked with love

Does your S/O have a favorite sweet treat? Find a recipe and get baking! Cooking is not only fun to do, but the delicious treat means so much more when it was made by someone they love. Also, it’s a gift you can share: win!

Old fashioned, hand-written love note

No one gets snail-mail anymore, which is why it’s so exciting! Find a printable card template online, design one yourself or just use cool stationary. Then, just write! Tell them what they mean to you or write a little poem, it doesn’t really matter as long as it’s personal and heart-felt. Now put it in an envelope and actually mail it!

And of course, if all else fails, CHOCOLATE.
