Labrador Retriever Named Most Popular Dog Breed

March 1, 2016

For the 25th consecutive year, 'Labs' have topped the American Kennel Club’s list of most popular dog in America. The AKC named the Labrador retriever as the top dog (no pun intended) after using registration statistics from their database.

“The versatile, lovable Lab has firmly planted its paw print in AKC’s history, celebrating a quarter of a century as America’s most popular dog,” AKC Vice President Gina DiNardo said. Labs are known for being a highly intelligent and family-friendly dog, which the AKC says helps them keep their high ranking.

German Shepherds finished 2nd on the list while Golden Retrievers, Bulldogs and Beagles finished out the top 5.
