Ten Subscription Boxes You Need in Your Life

March 10, 2016

As a college student, it’s the little things that make me excited and get me moving day-to-day. For instance, one of my favorite “little things” is checking the mailbox to see if my subscription box has yet arrived. I then spend hours (or even days) thoroughly going through my box. A few days later, the process starts over and the daily mailbox checks restart.

Not many people are familiar with subscription boxes, and this shocks me! Honestly, so many companies have different boxes for different customer bases. From health freaks to dog lovers, there’s a box for you! Here are the top ten box subscriptions you need in your life right now (in random order):

Graze

Graze is a weekly or bi-weekly snack box that offers a range of over 90 different, healthy snacks. Simply create your account and begin looking at the snacking options! Undoubtedly want that sea-salt popcorn? Add it to your box! Want to eventually try those dried fruit mixes? Select “try it” and it’ll randomly be added to one of your boxes! Allergic to peanuts? Mark that in your profile and they will make sure to never send you peanut products. There are several box options for all budget needs; prices range from $6.99 a box to $25 a box. Even better, Graze donates a portion of each sale/subscription to the Graze School of Farming in Uganda. Sign me up!

Birchbox

This box comes in two different selections: men and women. This monthly box’s purpose is to make shopping for new beauty products easier. Women’s products vary from makeup to bodycare and men’s products focus on grooming and lifestyle products. When signing up for your subscription, you will select which type of products you use most often so the box is personalized for YOU! Each box comes with a varying amount of product samples which, if you fall in love with the product, you can buy on the website for a discounted price.

Barkbox

Are you a dog lover? If not, go adopt a pup and come back to this box. If you are a dog-luvin’ hoo-man, well this is the box for you! Barkbox is a monthly box that includes four to six natural treats and American-made toys for your beloved pup, and trust me when I say your dog will be watching and waiting at the mailbox more often than the whole family combined. When subscribing, you’ll select the type of dog you have (from “small & cute” to “big & bold”) as well as a subscription plan. Boxes start at $29 for a single month, but if you love the box and don’t want to remember to renew your one-time subscription each month, you can pre-pay for three months (at $24/month), six months (at $21/month) and even 12 months (at $19/month). Why are you questioning this? Get ordering, hoo-man!

BroBox

For the guys (or the guy in your life), try out BroBox, a box full of, as the website Bro-ingly describes, “next level personal care stuff, snacks that you probably never heard of, energy stuff that might get you hooked and new apps, games, tech and more… All just for bros!” Each box comes with, give or take, five “bro” items that will leave you wanting more. If you (or your guy) is skeptical, just remember, this $15 box is made for bros, by bros and the Bro Development Specialists are certified in finding the right stuff for each guy…I mean bro.

Escape Monthly

The Escape Monthly box is for those of us who enjoy traveling but don’t get to do so as often as we would like. Escape takes awesome products from around the world and brings them directly to you. Each box is from a specific destination and includes products such as luxury bath, spa and beauty items, gourmet food and treats, jewelry and a travel guide of tips and secrets. Recent box destinations include “Sonoma County’s Hidden Treasures,” “Boat-In Restaurants Provide Unique Dining Experience” and many others. What are you waiting for? Get traveling!

FabFitFun

FabFitFun (let’s abbreviate that to FFF) is a beauty box that is delivered four times a year. At $50 a box, each FFF delivery includes over $100 worth of fashion finds, beauty secrets and fitness gear to provide you with a “life well lived.” FFF does have subscribers take a survey while signing up, but boxes are not yet personalized. However, the company sees this coming in the near future. This box is probably one of the most well-known in the box-subscription industry.

LootCrate

LootCrate is a monthly box for the geeky/gamer side of you. Starting at about $14 a box (plus S&H), your subscription will get you items like collectibles, t-shirts, gadgets and more. Each box is valued at $45+ so you know you’re getting your money’s worth! Each month’s box has a different theme, past themes including “Dead,” “Invasion,” “Galaxy” and “Combat.” To make things even more fun, each month LootCrate randomly selects one member to win a “Mega Crate” valued at over $2,000. Steal! If you’re this lucky winner, you’ll receive exclusive gear, tech gadgets, game systems, apparel and accessories. But even if you don’t win, this box is still totally worth it!

Plated

This weekly box is for the chef (or non-existant chef) in you! Plated delivers fresh ingredients already portioned out as well as instructions to create dinner for two throughout the week. Don’t worry, subscriptions range from two dinners/week to seven dinners/week, so you don’t have to fully commit right away. The current and next week’s meals are available on the website so you know what to expect. When subscribing, you will select your eating preferences (such as beef, vegetarian or poultry) as well as set a delivery day for each week. Not home on Mondays until 5:30 p.m.? Select Tuesday! Easy as pie (no pun intended…I don’t think Plated sends you pie ingredients).

BookDrop

The Book Drop is hand-put together in a small, independent bookstore just for you. I truly think this is the best thing about this box (or any box, really). It delivers a new book as well as some promotional items and secret gifts each month to your door. The prices on this box range each month, for the bookstore takes each book’s price into consideration. There are several levels of boxes, ranging from Children’s to Jane (contemporary and historical fiction) and Ernest (thriller and action). If you’re a bookworm and enjoy reading outside of your dreaded textbook, definitely give this box a try.

Bulu Box

Bulu wants to help you discover a healthier you with the help of their monthly subscription box! With each delivery you will receive four to five beneficial vitamins and supplements, which you can then purchase the full size of online! Each box is only $10, so you’re only paying about $2 per sample (deal!). When subscribing, you’ll first select the number of boxes you would like to order. You’ll also select if you would like an original box or a weight loss box. If that weren’t enough, you’ll also fill out your health goals so Bulu knows what exactly to send you. What personalization!
