By now we should all be used to Apple releasing a new version of the iPhone annually, which they have done since the phone’s inception in 2007 (minus in 2010 - no new version was released). Already this year, Apple announced the iPhone SE, which they market as “the most powerful 4-inch phone ever.” However, this version is being compared to the iPhone 5s and basically has the same capabilities as the iPhone 6s.
So what about the version that is released in September every year? Well, speculation as to what features that version will include have already begun surfacing. According to CNN, KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has predicted several previous versions of the iPhone and if her predictions for the iPhone 7s are true, the iPhone will never be the same again! Okay, that might be dramatic, but there could potentially be big changes in store.
Let’s break down Kuo’s predictions:
The iPhone will return to an all glass enclosure like the iPhone 4 and 4s. This will make the phone lighter than the iPhone 6.
Like the current Samsung Galaxy S Edge models and the LG Flex, the iPhone 7s will be curved. It is unclear how curved the glass will be.
The screen will use AMOLED technology which uses less battery and generally has blacker blacks and whiter whites than LCD technology.
The “Plus” version will have a 5.8-inch screen compared to the current iPhone 6s which has a 5.5-inch screen.
Kuo did not mention anything about rumors that the headphone jack will no longer be a part of the phone.
This version of the iPhone will have wireless charging capabilities. Many smartphones have this capability already, but the public has not really caught on yet. Starbucks has started incorporating wireless charging stations into its locations and IKEA has put the capability in some of its furniture.
This will allow for the continued thinning design of the phone.
When the iPhone 6 came out, it introduced us to the world of fingerprint scanning to unlock the phone, which experts have been able to spoof. Now, the iPhone 7s will use facial recognition. This is said to be more secure than the fingerprint scanning as it takes a 3D scan of your face. It can not be opened with just a picture of your face as some may try or assume.
All of these predictions are most likely for the iPhone 7s, which is slated to be released in 2017. With that being said, there may still be an iPhone 7 released this September. It is unknown what features the iPhone 7 will have when released.
