Met Gala Red Carpet Recap

The Met Gala is notorious for it’s over-the-top fashion moments. As each year honors a new exhibit of couture fashion, the night’s attendees are known to dress to impress. This year the exhibit, Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology, celebrates the merging of handmade clothing and machine-made clothing, or fashion of the future. Hosted by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the event is held to raise money for the Costume Institute at the museum and features an exclusive guest list of the industry’s elite.

While the glamorous fundraiser is meant to honor the year’s exhibit of art and fashion inside the museum, the action can be seen outside on the red carpet before the event. The stairs leading up to the Met have become a major element of the night, with hundreds of photographers waiting to catch a glimpse of the celebrities as they enter the museum.

The handpicked guest list generally followed the tech theme of the night, with many different shades of metallic worn throughout:

As co-chair for the night, Taylor Swift stays on trend in a metallic silver dress with gladiator style heels.

Kate Upton, wearing a silver gown from Topshop, announced her engagement to long-time boyfriend Justin Verlander.

Other stars who followed the metallic trend of the night:

Cindy Crawford wearing Balmain.

Kylie Jenner also wearing Balmain.

Also part of the Balmain army, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, who is sporting light blue contacts.

Gigi Hadid with boyfriend Zayn Malik.

Another trend of the night: White gowns.

Jennifer Hudson in H&M.

Kate Hudson wearing Versace.

A staple of the Met Gala, Sarah Jessica Parker sets her own trend with a white pantsuit

And lastly, the queen of chic and chairwoman of the Met Gala for the past 20 years, Anna Wintour wearing Chanel Haute Couture.
