Students Surprise Teacher with Kittens

May 8, 2016

Two teenagers from Joshua, Texas decided to surprise their teacher, Tonya Andrews of Joshua High School, after the teacher's cat passed away the previous day. The two teenagers, Ashlei Mahan and Rachet Hanhart, are shown in the video surprising Andrews with flowers, cupcakes and then balloons with kittens attached to the ends.

According to the Huffington Post, Andrews had lost her cat, Blondie, the previous day. She had died in her arms as she and her husband drove to the vet when they realized she was ill. She stated in an e-mail, “I cried pretty much every period that next day at school. I thought something was afoot, however, when only half of my class was in my room second period the next d

ay when the tardy bell rang.” When a few students walked in late, they walked in with the roses and cupcakes. Andrews was extremely grateful and appreciative of the support from her students but when she saw the kittens brought in by Hanhart she was in disbelief.

At first Andrews thought the girls brought the kittens in to play with her and the students but when she was told that they were now hers, she was brought to tears. Andrews later stated she’d “never forget our sweet, sweet Blondie. But my heart can now experience happiness again.”

Hanhart had posted a recording of the moment on her twitter account that you can watch here. The video has received over 55,000 retweets and 88,000 likes as well as being shared across multiple news sites.
