A First Look at Beauty and the Beast’s Supporting Characters

By now you’ve probably heard the hype about the much-anticipated film release of 2017: Disney’s live-action revival of “Beauty and the Beast.” Starring Emma Watson as Belle, the face of the new “Beauty” is about all that has been revealed about the film up until now. As of yesterday, images were released giving us a first look at the original story’s iconic supporting characters.

Pictures of Lumiere (voiced by Ewan McGregor), Cogsworth (voiced by Ian McKellen) and Gaston (played by Luke Evans) were leaked on Twitter, and there’s no denying that the redesign of these characters is breathtakingly gorgeous. While co-producer Jack Morrissey commented on his Instagram, “These designs are close but may not be final,” the concept art is enough to get fans excited for the film all over again. He also stated that these images are frames from a special “sneak-peek” of the 2017 film, which will be included on the 25th Anniversary Edition Blu-Ray/DVD of the 1991 classic, appearing in stores on September 20.

We can’t forget about one of the most beloved villains in all of Disney history: Gaston. This picture gives us more insight into what the set will look like on screen, and it appears that Disney is staying true to the original Oscar winning animation.

The trailer and images thus far hint at Disney retelling the classic animation, rather than giving the fairytale a new twist. At this point in time, we can predict a similar (if not the same) storyline to the original, a fantastic cast and a revival of the classic songs. According to ScreenRant, Alan Menken, the movie’s composer, also confirmed that there will be new songs in the 2017 version.

After the success of Disney’s live-action renditions of “Cinderella” and “The Jungle Book,” our expectations are high for this one. While we wait for 2017 to come around, here is the “Beauty and the Beast” trailer for you to watch on repeat a few hundred times. Are you excited about this remake?
