Life Hacks by Mat: Useful Tips

I’ve stepped up my game this week on Mat’s Life Hacks and found/tested four handy life hacks.

Shoe Hanging Rack Hack

First up, you can use hanging shoe racks to hold common household items and supplies. This is great for holding duct tape, cleaning supplies, screwdrivers, cords, paintbrushes, hot glue guns or just about any other household item you can think of.

Best of all, you can keep the shoe rack behind a closet or basement door so no one is the wiser.

Protect your Charger from Breaking

A common problem many iPhone users experience is the breaking of the charger cord after just a year or two of use. This hack solves that problem. Find an old pen and take the spring out of it.

Then, wrap the spring around the section of the cord that bends the most to keep it from splitting. This life hack works even if your cord is already broken. As you can see from the photo, my charger cord was already broken when I tried this.

Find the end of the spring and twist it around the cord. Take a look at the photos below to see how to wrap the spring around the cord.

Rubber Band Car Phone Holder

If you’re like me and you’re too cheap to buy a cellphone holder for your car, then this life hack is for you. Don’t waste money. All you need is a rubber band and your phone. Well, okay. You’ll need a car too, but I was assuming you already had one of those.

Place the rubber band through the air vents in your car and put your phone through it.

Make sure your heat isn’t on when you do this. However, if you put your air-conditioning on this will help keep your phone cool.

Now you can use the GPS on your phone without having to hold your phone while driving.

Strawberry Hack

Rather than cutting off the leaf of a strawberry with a knife, you can poke it out with a straw. This way you get more strawberry to eat than you would if you cut off the top of the fruit.

Plus, it just looks cool. You can make a strawberry cabob if you want.
