STOCKHOLM, SWEDEN - A truck smashed into a store in central Stockholm killing at least three people in what appears to be a terrorist attack. The attack happened Friday morning as a hijacked truck was used to strike pedestrians before crashing into an Ahlens store near the corner of Queen Street in the central part of the Swedish capital. Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven released a statement via the Swedish government website government.se saying:

“Sweden has been attacked. All indications are that it was a terrorist attack. Our thoughts are with the victims, their families and those injured. The Government is being kept up-to-date and is doing everything it can to assist the relevant authorities in their work. I encourage everyone to be vigilant and to pay attention to the information from the police.”

The Swedish intelligence agency said that there was a “large number of people injured.” There have currently been no arrests, but a large-scale manhunt is being conducted. The crash took place around 3:00 p.m. local time and the owner of the truck said that it had been hijacked earlier that day. Currently, the Swedish police’s National Operations Department (NOA) has released photos of a person of interest who is being sought after in connection with the attack. The attack caused government offices to be evacuated and cabinet ministers were brought to safety. All trains entering and leaving the city for the day have also been canceled for the remainder of the day.
