All-Summer 2017: Tips and Trends

April 24, 2017

It was a LONG winter, especially to us Midwesterners, but spring has finally sprung. We here at the Encounter would not only like to help you ditch your winter wardrobe but also help with different summer tips:

First off, here are some of spring/summer 2017 fashion trends, according to GQ, Glamour and Vogue:

1) Pink - particularly of the fuchsia variety

Whether you choose to layer lots of different hues over your separates or color block by wearing coats over statement dresses, you won't go wrong as long as it's pink. Another hot color this year is yellow (thanks to Beyoncé’s "Lemonade").

2) Bralettes

Perfect for those with a love of underwear as outerwear (like Kendall Jenner). You can pair these bralettes with everything, even suits! For those who are not comfortable wearing a bralette check, out trend number three.

3) Sheer

A favorite from last year, the sheer trend isn’t going anywhere. These see-through overlays ranged from mild, like an elegant-striped shirt, to teeny-tiny skirts.

4) White Dresses

If you love a floaty white shirtdress, this is the trend for you. According to Vogue, it's beachwear meets eveningwear maxi dresses, for these floaty white numbers.

5) Graphic Tees

Personally, this is my favorite trend. The shirt style is not new, but thanks to celebs like Rhianna, this t-shirt style have proven to be the most versatile item in your wardrobe (and its adaptable). This kind of trend is hard to come by; you can wear statement-making graphic tees with anything from jeans and sneakers to velvet suits and midi skirts for those whom aim to impress.

Remember that when it comes to fashion, you have to wear what makes you feel good because no matter the trend, if you don’t feel good wearing it you then you won't look good wearing it. Confidence is key!

Let's not forget some fundamental summertime tips:

After spending time in the wind, sun, chlorine, salt water and air conditioning, your hair may be dull, brassy, frizzy, dry or brittle. Remember to wear a hat if you are sitting in the sun and invest in a hair mask that works for your hair (i.e. a color-treated hair mask).

(^^^ see above ^^^) The same can be said for your body! Do not forget to use sunscreen; the American Academy of Dermatology recommends:

  • Broad-spectrum protection (protects against UVA and UVB rays),

  • Sun Protection Factor (SPF) 30 or higher, and

  • Water resistance.

FINAL PRO TIPS:

  • Ladies, use baby powder to stop your feet from sweating and sliding.

  • Keep an extra t-shirt in your bag or car for those oh-so-hot days, AKA for when you are sweating more than you are moving (no worries, we've all been there).

  • Don’t drink from a plastic bottle of water that has been sitting in the sun longer than 30 minutes, especially if the temperature is over 75 Fahrenheit.

We here at the Encounter hope you all have a happy and safe summer, and don’t forget to look out for our special summer edition of the Encounter in print coming August 2017!
