Two years ago, the world returned to a galaxy far far away with “Star Wars: The Force Awakens,” the first big new “Star Wars” film in 10 years. “The Force Awakens” was the first film of a new trilogy planned by Lucasfilm and Disney, and it’s safe to say audiences were very, very eager to see the next installment.
With midterms and so much going on in the world right now, it’s easy to almost forget that we are getting that next installment in less than three months (even writing that out is shocking). This past Monday, “Star Wars” fans, movie fans, and football fans got a friendly little reminder by revealing the new trailer for “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”
Boy, did they reveal it in style too. The trailer was aired during halftime on Monday Night Football with the Bears vs. Vikings game. Not only was the trailer shown to viewers at home, but fans at Soldier Field were given an extra treat when Stormtroopers came out in the middle of the stadium and revealed the trailer on the screens around the stadium. It was an epic reveal for an epic trailer.
Fans were hesitant to view the trailer due to tweets earlier in the year by Rian Johnson, director of the new film, and Mark Hamill, who plays the hero Luke Skywalker, telling them to avoid any footage until the movie comes out. However, Johnson and Hamill backed off those claims, and any hesitation looked like it was thrown out the window, as the trailer had over 25 million views in just 5 days. Viewers were shown glimpses of epic battles, new worlds, the return of familiar faces (such as the late great Carrie Fisher in the final role of Leia), and confrontations between heroes and villains that left viewers with even more questions. Those questions are sure to be answered when “The Last Jedi” finally comes out on December 15.
