March Madness approaching for local teams

When you hear the term March Madness, you think of the NCAA basketball tournament. Well you are not wrong, but that term was originated in Illinois by the Illinois High School Association. With the flip of the calendar, IHSA basketball is in full post-season focus with the regional tournament taking place. The Joliet area is well represented with a number of teams playing for the regional championship March 2.

At the Lemont High School regional, the Lemont Indians will be facing the Bolingbrook Raiders at 7:00 pm in hopes to make a run at a state title. Bolingbrook is no stranger to making a deep post season run coming home with a second-place finish in 2015. The Romeoville Spartans will be squaring off with Lincoln-Way East, two teams who are looking to make their first state appearance in a long time. Plainfield South High School will be hosting the regional championship game of Aurora West and Andrew High School. Finally, Joliet Central will be facing off against Oswego East. These two teams have played each other twice this season resulting in a split with Joliet Central taking the win on December 15 and just a few weeks ago, Oswego East took a seven-point win.

The winners of each game will be heading to the sectional semi-final on March 6. For final scores, visit
