In 2016, the Slammers finished the season in first place. However, the 2017 season did not end well. The Slammers ended the season with 42 wins and 54 losses coming in 5th place out of 6 teams. The manager of the Slammers, Jeff Isom stated “We had a lot of opportunities with guys in scoring position to get runs, and we just weren’t able to do it.” The season had several ups and downs including injuries.
According to the Chicago Tribune, left-hander Joseph Ortiz, who played for the Texas Rangers in 2013 was unable to make a strong comeback from arm surgery. With main players out, it gave rookies a chance to get some experience. However, the Slammers have a chance to improve and come out on top for the 2018 season.
Hopefully, the Slammers will be able to play on their home field. The stadium is currently installing a new turf but must push back the completion once again. The weather and draining issues has made it impossible to successfully install the turf. According to the Joliet Herald News, general manager Heather Mills stated, “I will be very happy to see it in, and I know it will be worth the wait.” There’s still plenty of time before May 15 to see the turf get installed. The turf has been delivered and crews are ready.
Let’s play ball!!
