Joliet woman Ashley Tucker was found dead on Oct. 22. Now, family and friends are seeking the public’s assistance to cover the cost of her funeral arrangements in the form of a GoFundMe.
“She [Ashley] was everything to us. A beautiful mother, daughter, sister,” according to the GoFundMe page. “She didn’t deserve this. Nobody does! Help us send my cousin away like the queen she was.”
The GoFundMe had set a goal of $5,000 and more than $4,300 has been raised as of Nov. 2.
According to The Herald-News, Tucker was last seen at a family party Oct. 13 on Tamarack Drive in Joliet before she went missing. Her burned remains were later found in a barrel on South State Street, just outside Joliet.
42-year-old Peter Zabala, a convicted sex offender, was arrested for Tucker’s disappearance. According to CBS Chicago, Zabala was released from prison in 2011 and since then, two separate women have filed for orders of protection against him on five different occasions.
Zabala also violated the Sex Offender Registration Act by not informing the Will County Sheriff’s Office he had changed his cellphone number.
Police have said Zabala was the last person to see Tucker before she vanished, but he has not yet been charged with harming her.
According to The Herald-News, Zabala’s attorney, Cosmo Tedone, requested his bond be set at $30,000. However, Will County Judge Dave Carlson decided to keep Zabala jailed without bond while reviewing a pretrial risk assessment report for another court hearing on Nov. 5.
