USF’s Swinging Saints to Perform Concert This Friday

November 16, 2018

This Friday, November 16, the University of St. Francis will be having a concert performed by the USF vocal jazz ensemble, Swinging Saints. The concert will be at 7:30 p.m. in San Damiano Hall which is in the Motherhouse building. According to the Music and Performing Arts Department, the vocal jazz ensemble will present an exciting program “about the people they would like to meet and others they would like to introduce to you!” Tickets are required for this event, however, tickets are always complimentary for staff and students with an ID regardless of the event. The costs per ticket are as follows:

Adults: $10.00

Seniors (65+), Alumni and Non-USF Students: $7.00

Students and Staff with ID: Free

Bennie Radford, a junior at the University of St. Francis and one of the members of Swinging Saints, says, “I have been involved in Swinging Saints for almost three years now and, while I might be a little biased, each concert is fun to perform. We all get along really well and we have been practicing a lot. It is going to be a great show! Also, who doesn’t love some great jazz music?”

According to the BBC, jazz music is “defiant, rich and ceaselessly inventive.” The source continues, “Jazz, from cross-cultural fusion to spiky avant garde, is bursting with energy and invention.”

The performance will be directed by Dr. Paul Laprade and the performers will even have a professional jazz band playing alongside each performance.

According to www.stfrancis.edu, Paul Laprade was recently appointed to the Illinois American Choral Directors’ Association (IL-ACDA) as the repertoire and research chair for colleges and universities.
