USF Men and Women's Bowling Dayton Bound
For the second consecutive year, both the men and women from the University of St. Francis' Bowling team have qualified to bowl for a national title at the Intercollegiate Team Championship (ITC) in Dayton, Ohio. Coming off of two fourth place finishes in the sectional tournament, the Saints look to keep their momentum. Since the calendar flipped to 2019 they have placed in the top 10 in every tournament . Head coach, Tony Talley will be making his fifth straight appearance with at least one of his teams advancing to the ITC finals.
At the sectional tournament, the men had a very impressive first day of the tournament, wrapping up the day in second place. At this specific tournament, it is necessary to finish in the top four to advance to ITC’s, so it is imperative to have a solid first day. Having enough pins to separate you from the cut line is a huge advantage. Luckily, the men built out that advantage on Saturday. They needed every pin they could to advance after having a hard time scoring on Sunday. After 60 total games, the men found themselves up against a major challenge as they faced the number one team in the country, Robert Morris University. With a 40 pin lead on Robert Morris, the Saints put together four solid games to secure their spot in the top four to advance to Ohio. Members of the advancing team are, Marc Gonzalez, Alex Guglielmucci, Michael Pruchnik, Michael Kicmal, Dan Duplessis, Danny Griskell, Jacob Hubbs and Robert Kicmal
Similar song and dance for the women’s team at sectionals. They held a comfortable advantage at the fifth spot after Saturday’s competition. On Sunday, they were challenged by Mount St. Mary’s for the final spot going into final four games. The Lady Saints, coming off a win at the Hoosier Classic, capitalized on their momentum from the morning and were able to come home in the fourth spot and make their fifth straight appearance at the ITC National Tournament. Members of the advancing team are Jordan Tiritilli, Jessica Halas, Abby Ragsdale, Haley Douglas, Jessica Schram, Dana Ackerson, Emily Schrader and Megan Allensworth.
We would like to congratulate Michael Pruchnik for advancing to the Intercollegiate Singles Championship that takes place days before the team championship in Dayton, Ohio. Pruchnik became the first male USF bowler to make the singles portion of the national tournament.
