Fall Break 101

Fall break is finally upon us. For some students, it means going back home to work and for others, it means staying on campus because home is too far away. No matter the case, here are four things you should be doing while on fall break!

1. Get some sleep

Catching up on sleep is crucial for your mental and physical health. Using this time to catch up on sleep is a great opportunity for even the sleepiest of students. By getting more hours of sleep, this will hopefully instill a healthier sleep pattern for the return to school. According to www.sleepfoundation.org, “Unfortunately, a person can't just accumulate sleep deprivation and then log many hours of sleep to make up for it (although paying back ‘sleep debt’ is always a good idea if you're sleep deprived). The best sleep habits are consistent, healthy routines that allow all of us, regardless of our age, to meet our sleep needs every night, and keep on top of life's challenges every day.”

2. Get some extra hours of work

College life is all about money. Having a week off from school might mean another opportunity to cash in on some extra hours at work. Student loans aren’t going to pay themselves! And a little extra spending money never hurts.

3. Catch up on schoolwork

Didn't do as well as you hoped on your midterms? That's alright, we still have half a semester to go. While this may not be everyone's ideal way of spending a week off, taking a little time to get caught up on classes can be very beneficial for the second half of the semester, especially as big projects and tests come up.

4. Hang out with friends and family

Getting to spend some quality time with friends or loved ones can be a rarity for some students. Fall break provides you with an excellent chance to reconnect with those you may have lost touch with, or those you just want to spend more time with. Be it friends or family, you finally have some time to be a social butterfly.

See you all back on campus on Oct. 21st! Until then, happy fall break!
