Lifetime Joliet Supporter, Dorothy “Dottie” Brown, Passes Away
The University of St. Francis (USF) is sad to share the news that lifetime friend and supporter of USF, Dorothy “Dottie” Brown, has passed away. Dottie peacefully passed away on Monday, November 11. She is reunited with her husband, LaVerne “Bitz” Brown, who passed away in 2013.
The Browns created a lasting legacy at USF. In 2011, the university’s library was renamed the LaVerne & Dorothy Brown Library, and in 2018, the LaVerne & Dorothy Brown Science Hall opened. The Browns have and will always positively impact the lives of current and future generations of USF students. Nephew, Mike Bily, says Dottie loved Joliet, and they felt very fortunate to have done what they did. Bily continues and says that they came from humble beginnings and were self-made. They did not have wealthy parents.
Besides just USF, Dorothy and LaVerne jointly donated millions to other institutions in the Joliet area, such as Silver Cross Hospital, AMITA Health Saint Joseph Medical Center, Lewis University, Providence Catholic High School and Joliet Catholic Academy.
Dottie will be remembered for her perpetual smile, her humble heart and her lifelong service to the community. She will be greatly missed.
