Keep Live Music Alive

With the music industry coming to a halt in an attempt to stop the spread of COVID-19, the world seems to be going through withdrawal from live music. There’s been artists streaming live shows online, but it’s just not the same. I watched Porridge Radio the other day on a live stream and it sounded surprisingly good at times, but there might have been a problem with my internet or Pitchfork’s stream or whatever. The stream randomly lagged and echoed, so I only watched about fifteen minutes of it. Until we’re all at shows again, we won’t have our fix- but maybe we can put on a nicotine patch for now. I attached three of my favorite live shows that can be watched on YouTube, so if you’re missing live music here’s something that might satisfy you. Also, If you like the bands I’ve recommended or have your own preference, please support them while they’re out of work. If you can afford to, buy some merch and/or music from a band or venue to help them make it through this social distancing lockdown.

LIVE SHOW #1 SNAIL MAIL ON KEXP

Snail Mail is one of the best up and coming indie bands around. The band is the solo project of 20-year-old Lindsey Jordan, who signed with Matador Records after high school. For this little set, the band was touring for the Lush album, which was nominated for Breakthrough Artist/Release and Best Rock Album of 2019 at the Libra Awards. Check out the band’s website at https://www.snailmail.band.com to buy some music or cool merch.

LIVE SHOW #2 KING GIZZARD & THE LIZARD WIZARD ON KEXP

KEXP, if you’re not familiar, is a Seattle radio station that focuses on indie, alternative, and rock music. They’re famous for the live sets they deliver and how good the sound quality is. If you’re looking to watch and listen to some live music, my first recommendation would be KEXP. For this set, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard (awesome band name) puts on a great live show. I saw this band in 2015 and was blown away by how intense their show was. You can support KEXP by going to https://www.kexp.org and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard by going to https://kinggizzardandthelizardwizard.com Enjoy!

LIVE SHOW #3 THUNDERCAT ON NPR MUSIC TINY DESK CONCERT

Thundercat is possibly one of the funkiest artists today. His tiny desk concert is over two years old, but it still sounds so good. If you want to get funky in your house, this is the musician

to play. He’s recently come out with a few singles and if you want to buy some merch or music just go to http://www.brainfeedersite.com/thundercat/
