The Archway Review is a student-run literary magazine that publishes once per semester. The magazine publishes poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, art and photography. Anyone who is affiliated with the University of St. Francis (USF) can submit creative works to the magazine. It provides an opportunity for creative writers to become published.
The Archway editorial team is made up of students who are involved through a class or an internship. Once works are submitted, the editorial team decides which works will be accepted and under what conditions. Anything ranging from poems, photography, artwork, short stories, blog posts and non-fiction writing has been featured in the literary magazine.
Students are called to contribute to the magazine for the opportunity it provides. Works that are accepted are only given a short amount of time to make any edits that are necessary.
The current Editor-in-Chief, Rodolfo Flores said, “I want to give the students more time because I know that it takes time to do these things.”
The implementation of this new timeline is something that is intended to entice more students to submit works to the literary magazine.
The consistent rotation of the editorial board can be viewed in both a positive and negative light. On one hand, new leadership leaves a lot of room for a greater amount of fresh ideas. However, the more pressing issue falls on the high rotation leading to weakness in the organization. High turnover leads to new ideas being ultimately overlooked and not carried over to the next semester.
The future of the Archway is uncertain because the Editor-in-Chief position is filled by a new student every issue. Currently, the plan is to increase the platform and visibility for greater awareness at USF. Flores talked about laying the groundwork for the Archway to be even bigger than when he stepped into his role. He hopes to have more recognition for the literary magazine and for it to have even greater importance to the students.
